Playscape Creations has been privileged to work with AB Paterson College on two of their playground re-developments, most recently on the Rainforest Playground as part of their new Winton Centre. Designed to meet the needs of the early years, the playspace provides a varied range of activity – climbing and sliding, musical therapy, water play, sand play, crawling and hideaways – all themed to a natural rainforest feel. Bespoke shade was designed specially for the project creating a ‘canopy’ feel over the quiet play area, and hand carved hardwood timber totems provide a tactile element and a wonderful natural aesthetic. To top it all off, the college has birdsong and sounds of nature gently streaming through speakers surrounding the playspace and you truly feel that you are walking through a peaceful rainforest setting.
The design intent of the Winton Centre was “born with a view of providing an immersive, highly engaging and flexible learning precinct” and while the playspace is just a small part of this larger outcome, its unique feel creates an oasis inside the main building. Working within such a major construction project meant strong liaison was essential with all parties throughout the planning and construction project management to ensure seamless delivery. Our fully qualified Playscape Creations Construction team did an outstanding job completing the works under Principal Contractors Alders Construction
Local news coverage of the official opening of the building highlights its impressive digital innovations and the commitment of the college to take education to a new level and we’re more than proud to have been a part of it.
