The latest recreational area within this masterplanned estate by Mirvac will become the sporting hub of this development, with large sports fields, spectator areas and dog off leash area surrounding the playground. We worked with Vee Design to design and deliver a multi-functional intergenerational play environment along this sporting narrative and key park outcomes of sustainability, heritage, user interaction, family usability and adaptability.
We incorporated a “play island” approach in the play environment to enable different age groups and abilities to find their just right fit in the playground with both junior and senior play equipment, multi-user swing and a standard swing for toddlers and older children. The entire area is protected by our custom designed shade – inspired by the Gabba Stadium’s design – which is an art form in itself..
One of the key elements in this playspace is the “Cricket Field” – part of our new capabilities with bespoke art pieces being created from sustainable high quality hardwood timber. These massive cricket stumps, bails and crafted ball have created an engaging and visually appealing space for imagination play, balance, chasing and informal seating.
Adjacent to the main play area is a fitness circuit with Training Buddies fitness pieces to promote physical activity. These innovative pieces provide the platform for pull ups, push ups, sit ups, squats, lunges, shoulder presses and tricep strengthening with instructions to allow everyone to exercise confidently, and in some cases including band lugs for further challenge. Placed along a circular trail in garden bed settings, these durable features help to contribute to a healthy active community and provide a great aesthetic feature too.
