Early October, Marcel (Playscape Creations’ Director) and our Landscape Architect Tobias headed to Tobias’ home country Germany to visit the GaLaBau Expo in Nuremberg. It was also a great opportunity to catch up with our new European manufacturing partners, Agorespace, Playnetic and HeBlad.
GaLaBau offered a great opportunity to experience what the European market is up to and how we are ‘keeping up’ and/or innovating here in Australia. The trend of nature inspired play was very prominent at the expo with a large number of exhibitors showing their product and service in line with natural materials – timber, rocks, plants. This was also highlighted in several talks by German Landscape Architects who talked about the natural move, increased biodiversity and better health in our built environment.
With regards to playground equipment more timber suppliers were found to be exhibiting than expected and a wider range of manufacturers that provide hybrid play structures combining timber and steel. Another interesting observation was the appearance of numerous outdoor fitness stations including simplistic posts and bars that still offer a quality workout.
Overall the GaLaBau experience was fantastic to meet and greet many like minded people, seeing that we are indeed doing the right thing here in Australia, and keeping up with the trends of advanced recreational experiences nestled in nature to be truly inclusive and multi-functional.
